Carlos Roncero MD. Ph D. was graduate as doctor in the University of Valladolid and as a Psychologist in the UNED (Madrid). He was trained as Psychiatrist and Doctorate in the Rovirai Virgil University of Tarragona. He is a psychiatrist specializing in drug dependence and dual diagnosis. He is professor in the Department of Psychiatry of the Universidad de Salamanca (Spain) where he teaches psychiatry in the position of Associate Lecturer. He has taught numerous courses and lectures for pre- and post-graduate university students, doctors in training, psychiatrists, psychologist and general practitioners in Europe, Latinoamerica, USA and Africa. He has also collaborated with international agencies, task force, committees and societies such as the WPA, WFSBP, APAL, OEA and CELAD.
Dr. Roncero is the Head of the Psychiatric Service of the University of Salamanca Health Care Complex (ComplejoAsistencial Universitario de Salamanca/CAUSA), Salamanca, Spain. He isaffiliated to the Institute of Biomedicine of Salamanca (IBSAL)- University of Salamanca, (Spain). He worked in the Psychiatry Department of the Hospital UniversitarioValld’Hebronin Barcelona (Spain), where he was the Head of the Addiction and Dual Diagnosis Unit until October 2017.
His work includes a clinical position and a training residency, and he is involved in research trials of new medications for drug-dependent/dual-diagnosis patients, as well as the study of the neurobiological and clinical markers of addition, and CHV among drug-dependent patients.
He has received grants from InstitutCarlos III and from PND for the study of the comorbidities and cocaine dependence, and was the principal investigator in clinical trials for treatment alcohol dependence, cocaine dependence and schizophrenia.
Dr. Roncero has authored 196articles and 95book chapters, in addition to co-editing 14 books on the psychopharmacology of drug dependence, treatment of dual-bipolar/dual-schizophrenic patients, dual diagnosis, cannabis dependence, opiate dependence, ADHD, personality disorders, and schizophrenia.
Since May 2002, he has been a board member of the Spanish Society of Dual Diagnosis (Sociedad Española de Patología Dual), becoming vice-secretary in May 2008. Since April 2016 he serve as vicepresident of this society. He has been a board member of the Dual Pathology /Dual disorders section of the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) since December 2012 and of the World Association Dual Diagnosis since April 2015 (WADD). He is patron and secretary of the Dual PathologyFoundation since May 2014.
